• About

Hi! I'm Dana Sparling, a student musician based in Camas, WA. I'm a flutist, piccolo player, and saxophonist with a love for both classical and jazz traditions. Whether I'm performing with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony or accompanying my school's choir, I love to perform. I plan to major in Music Education or in Flute performance. Outside of music, I enjoy poetry, taking care of my ducks, and serving drinks at Starbucks.

I currently play in multiple ensembles at Camas High School, including the Wind Ensemble (Flt 1), Symphonic/Marching Band (Flt 1), and Jazz Band (ASX 2). In addition, I frequently join CHS choir performances as a soloist and accompanist and play in the school pit orchestra. I'm also an active member of several clubs, including the Camas Watershed Alliance (founder/VP), Key Club, National Honor Society, Scientific Outreach Club (secretary), and the Red Cross. Serving my community is an important part of my life, and I work with several nonprofits and the City of Camas to help give back to the people who support me.

Outside of school, I've played with the Metropolitan Youth Symphony since I was 12, serving as a flutist, piccoloist, and saxophonist in both Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Wind ensemble. I also volunteer with the 45th Parallel Universe, have played with various student-led ensembles, and I busk at the Camas Farmers' market. I participate in honor bands such as the Western International Band Clinic (where I served as principal) and All-State/All-NW on an annual basis, and have placed 2nd for the past two years in the regional solo competition.

I study flute under the amazing Zach Galatis. Thanks for visiting my site—I’m always growing, playing, and exploring. I hope you’ll join me on the journey.
